Kauai’s majestic NaPali coast is one of the most dramatic coastlines in the world. This 16-mile stretch of coastline is full of lush valleys, waterfalls, secluded beaches, and 4,000-foot pali or cliffs. It cuts through five valleys, including the Hanakoa Valley, with its native plants and old agricultural terraces. It’s on the must-see or bucket list of many travelers to the state of Hawaii.
This remote and inaccessible coastline on the island’s northwest is now part of the Napali Coast State Wilderness Park. It can be viewed by helicopter, an 11-mile rugged hike on the tough Kalalau Trail, or our preferred way, by boat or catamaran.
If a visit to the NaPali coast is on your itinerary, then our resort manager, Hoku, has suggested her three best NaPali coast excursions:
1 The NaPali Coast Snorkel and Sunset Dinner Cruise
This five-hour deluxe half-day snorkel cruise combines the thrill of snorkeling with the romance of a sunset dinner cruise. As the sun starts to set, the afternoon light brings a special magic to the NaPali, creating a host of photographic opportunities. In addition to learning about Kauai history and legends, you can dive in and snorkel, enjoying tropical fish, dolphins, sea turtles, and much more.
The fun-loving crew serves an early casual three-course meal. This includes appetizers, shoyu chicken, stir-fried vegetables, rice, tossed green salad, buns, fruit salad for dessert, and cookies.
The sunset cruise takes place every Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with a 1:15 p.m. check-in.
2 The NaPali Coast Sightsee and Sunset Dinner Cruise
Don’t fancy a dip in the Pacific? Then this is the option for you. This four-hour sightseeing dinner cruise travels along Kauai’s magical NaPali coast. As you sail, pods of dolphins playfully skim the waters nearby. Learn of the history and legends of the NaPali and the abundant marine life you encounter. Humpback whale watching is fabulous during December thru April and a highlight of any tour.
The crew serves a casual local style three-course meal for dinner, soft drinks, beer, wine, and Mai Tai’s and the voyage home is complete with a romantic sunset to top off the perfect day. Fun for the entire family
